Zormat, Paktya Province: Taliban militants fired 27 mortar rounds at a Coalition Forward Operating Base last night. Three different firing locations were seen from the FOB and a Quick Reaction Force left the FOB to investigate. Two Coalition F15 “Strike Eagles” were on station minutes later, followed by two A10 “Warthogs”, Coalition mortars and artillery was aimed at the Taliban firing positions. Despite the presence of weapons enough to destroy the terrorist mortar crews, no fire was returned. The terrorists had fired their mortars from well within the village of Zormat, knowingly placing the lives of the innocent villagers in grave danger. By the time ground forces arrived at the firing locations the Taliban had fled into the surrounding mountains.
