Paktika Province: The following message from Colonel Malik, the Paktika Provincial Chief of Police, was broadcast by the Voice of Paktika, an Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Government supported Radio Station. “Citizens of Paktika, I am here today to tell you about a crime committed by the fighters who are working to destroy our quality of life even as we strive to rebuild it. On 12 September, 2007, Anti-Afghan Forces in Northern Bermel District detonated a bomb at a Madrassa in a cowardly attempt to disrupt progress. These men demonstrate their “faith” by destroying a school dedicated to teaching the word of God. Even more than that, they destroyed this madrassa on the eve of Ramadan, the holiest month of the Muslim year. These people insulted God and his prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, by destroying a building dedicated to teaching young people about the holy Quran. These cowardly people hide in YOUR villages and homes and conduct their attacks near YOUR families, with no regard for your lives and beliefs. It is the duty of every good Muslim to drive off those who would conduct these treacherous attacks. Report the presence of these criminals to the men of the Afghan National Army or Afghan National Police, or their partners in the Coalition Forces so that your families will not be threatened and your village can prosper.”
