2008-01-13-matin-bridge5.jpgGovernor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi, Sub-Gov Mohd Rahman, and MRRD Director Mohd Jafar attended the ground breaking ceremony hosted by Unique Builders Construction Company (UBCC) this past week near Matin Village, Manogai District, Kunar Province. The Matin Bridge is funded by Provincial Reconstruction Team Kunar and will be constructed by Unique Builders Construction Company (UBCC).  At least 75% of the labor will be from within 10 kilometers of the job site giving the local populace the opportunity to work on a project benefiting their community and learn a skilled trade at the same time. The 48-meter reinforced concrete truck bridge is expected to be completed in about 3 months. Governor Wahidi emphasized the positive developments of the many projects ongoing in Kunar. He appealed to elders to be proactive and take advantage of the millions of dollars available for reconstruction in Kunar.

We have been fighting for 30 or 40 years – now the fighting is finished and it is time to improve life and reconstruct our province.

The lasting benefits of this project are to extend and promote the reach and legitimacy of the government of Afghanistan and the Kunar Province through facilitating reconstruction, development and economic growth for the people of Kunar.
