BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (August 30, 2008) – Several militants were killed by Coalition forces during an operation to disrupt militant activities in Kapisa province, Friday.
The force attempted to search a compound in Nijrab District targeting a Taliban commander smuggling weapons into Afghanistan, as well as conducting IED attacks against Coalition and ISAF forces.
After receiving heavy AK-47 and RPG fire, Coalition forces instructed the militants to come out peacefully in order to deescalate the situation. Several women and children exited the compound and were moved to a safe area at which time Coalition forces again came under AK-47 and RPG fire.
Coalition force responded with precision airstrikes, killing several militants.
