KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition forces killed 33 militants Friday in Nad Ali District, Helmand province, about 150 kilometers west of Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan.
ANSF and Coalition forces were conducting a security patrol when they were engaged by militants who fired from multiple fighting positions with small arms, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars.
ANSF and Coalition forces returned fire primarily with small-arms fire and limited close-air support, killing 33 militants.
“The ANSF continue to increase security in Afghanistan by successfully engaging and defeating militant forces,” said Col. Greg Julian, U.S. Forces Afghanistan spokesman.
